Designing Twitter backgrounds.
Let me start by saying that if you use the provided designs from twitter for your account the problem I am going to talk about doesn’t affect you at all. On the other hand if you want to customize your twitter background then keep reading, also the left side bar problem not showing only affects a small group of people running lower resolutions say 1024 wide and below.
The problem that is happening for many folks tend to use twitter as an effective tool to market their services and they often use the left side section of twitter to add telephone numbers, addresses, pictures and other things to bring more attention to their profile, see image below. (shameless plug to another one of my accounts)
Monitor Resolution set 1024 pixels wide (perhaps most commonly used by many users)

Now some people are running a fairly “standard” resolution of 1024×768 which leaves a small sliver of space on their left bar, so if the information they put there is larger than that “sliver”, things will be cut off.
So to try and give people the option of fixing that problem I set up a photoshop file, created on Photoshop CS3 (saying this in case someone can’t open it in an earlier version).
The file is set up with:
- Guides that will keep you inside the area you should stay in
- Some premaid simple gradients for backgrounds
- Plus live text for you to change to suit your needs
View the problem below
I used one of my own twitter accounts for the other business I run so I would not upset another person by highlighting a flaw with their backgrounds.
Monitor Resolution set at less than 900 pixels wide

Monitor Resolution set 1024 pixels wide (you can say most common)

Monitor Resolution set at 1680 pixels wide

Monitor Resolution set at 1920 pixels wide
